Audit, Quality Improvement & Research

There are great opportunities for audit, quality improvement (QI) and research within the department. A list of previous and ongoing audits can be viewed on the Quality Improvement pages in the Members section of this site. Many of the audits could be repeated if you would like to complete the audit cycle; just contact the original author to discuss.

Quality Improvement

Quality improvement is the way in which every member of the department can make changes to improve care and patient outcomes. We are a big department with lots of diverse and interesting QI projects happening in a variety of areas - everyone is encouraged to get involved. The quality improvement database has past and current projects registered, and may also provide you with inspiration for your next project!

Trainee QI Networks

Aberdeen trainees have collaborated with Dundee and Inverness trainees to develop a trainee QI and research network called SEQuoIA. This provides opportunities for trainees to be involved in trainee led multi-centre, high impact audit and research projects within anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine.

The Aberdeen QI group also seek to provide a formal point of contact for consultants, other specialties and external networks who seek to involve trainees within audit and research projects. We aim to provide advice and support and encourage local projects to be published and presented.

Since developing this network in 2016, we have already participated in 2 large multi-centre projects which have produced high quality data. These have been published in the BJA and presented at the BJA Scottish Winter meeting, BJA Research Forum in London, the European Society of Anaesthesiology meeting in Geneva and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists ASM meeting in Sydney.

If you wish to get more information on current Aberdeen projects visit the QI part of the Aberdeen Anaesthesia website. For more information on SEQuoIA visit www.dundeegas.com. Alternatively any of the following people would be happy to be contacted directly. Please get in touch if you wish to be involved within our QI collaborative group.
